VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

CHAIR IN URDU AND PAKISTAN STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF JORDAN, IN THE HASHEMITE KINGDOM OF JORDAN

BASIC ELIGIBILITY

1. The Chair shall be a Pakistani national scholar who will not exceed 55 years of age on the date of joining the University of Jordan and will have the rank of Associate Professor or above.
2. The Chair will be a PhD in Urdu Language and Literature, Pakistan Studies, History, Political Science, International Relations, International Trade, or Development Economics, duly recognised by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
3. At least 10 years teaching/research experience in a recognized university/research center organization
4. At least 15 relevant publications in HEC recognized journals
5. The Chair will be proficient in the English language.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. The Chair holder shall undertake academic and research work related to Pakistan's history, culture, people, national and regional languages, eminent literary figures, national heroes, geography, and regional economic and political environment for the benefit of anyone and everyone interested, including students, faculty of foreign languages at the University of Jordan, researchers, and scholars. The Chair holder shall also perform such teaching duties as may be assigned by the University of Jordan in consultation with the relevant teaching department of the university. Additionally, the Chair holder shall serve as a liaison between the University and the Pakistani community and will play a role in furthering these relations.
2. The Chair will impart knowledge on Pakistan's history, culture, people, national and regional languages, eminent literary figures, national heroes, geography, and the regional economic and political environment for the minimum number of hours and days as prescribed by the University of Jordan.
3. The Chair will devote special time to teaching Urdu, Pakistan Studies, literature and Pakistani culture.
4. The Chair will interact with the academic community of Jordan with a view to positively contribute to the relations between Pakistan and Jordan.
5. The Chair will attend academic forums in Jordan on relevant issues and the time to the concerned.
6. The Chair will organise long and short courses as appropriate for the students in studies about Pakistan, as envisaged in Article 1.
7. The Chair will extend maximum cooperation to scholars of Jordan who undertake research on any aspect of Pakistan.
8. The Chair will endeavour to bring together outstanding Pakistani and Jordanian scholars, intellectuals and eminent persons of letters and Arts to carry out research on Pakistan and/or Jordan.
9. The Chair will organise and conduct conferences, seminars, symposia, workshops, Art exhibitions on Pakistan Film and food festivals, showcasing the time to the concerned.
10. The Chair will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and information to the mutual benefit of Pakistan and Jordan.
11. The Chair will organise as well as participate in the functions on Pakistan's various days of importance.
12. The Chair will establish Pakistan's literacy and/or cultural comes in the library of the host universities.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. The tenure of the appointment will initially be for a period of three (3) years on a deputation basis/contract basis, which is extendable to a maximum of two years on yearly basis.
